Favorites for May 6th-May 13th
My current favorite product is Carol Bryer Fallert's Superior Thread line: Brytes. It's a 30 weight trilobal poly. It feels like silk, has great sheen, and is nice and heavy so your quilting or applique really shows. 50 different beautiful colors.
Karen and I are both huge fans of Best Press (and judging by how much of mine got used at retreat, and bought at retreat), everyone who's tried it LOVES Best Press. If you're doing anything with bias, it's the perfect way to prevent stretching, and with straight seams, it makes the fabric easier to handle. Above all, it smells wonderful (I love Caribbean Breeze, personally) and doesn't give you "fabric dandruff". Also great for paper-piecing to keep your fabric stable (remember that pressing is the most important part of paper-piecing). You can get the small spray bottle or the gallon refill (the environmentally friendly option).
My last favorite of the week is Marti Michell's Not-So-Giant-Dahlia Templates. They are super easy to use, just get a 28mm rotary cutter and for greater ease, a spinning cutting mat, and you can have it cut in an hour. Great for using scraps or stash because the amounts of fabric necessary are small. It's also a perfect way to learn curved piecing. I'll be making a Giant Dahlia (I've already made a mini, check out my blog for a pic) and posting pictures of the steps on my blog, so if you want some moral support, keep your eye on that.
